Year 2013 bring so many drastic and useful updates in search engines specially Google with Penguin 2.1, Hummingbird, Knowledge Graph improvements, Domain Crowding and lot more. These updates bring smilies for some webmasters and amny were laid down in rankings. You have been working hard to recover with content change or with building quality links. Though the basics for SEO will remain same forever but we have to move on with trending tricks and tools to compete with others and manage the big sites in easy way.
Here we will discuss some search engine ranking factors and tools that may work in coming year 2014.As per a survey by Moz.com with 120 leading search marketers, they found some ranking factors:
Google +1 (But Googler Matt Cutts says it’s not a ranking factor but in some hidden algo it is)
- Unique IPs Linking to the Page – simply number of quality backlinks
- Subdomains Linking to the Page
- Facebook Shares, Likes, Comment
- Domain Authority or Page Rank
- Internal Linking
- H1 tags
- Meta Description
- Keywords in Content
- Keywords in URL
- Tweets
- Content is King
- Social Media Sharing (Facebook,Twitter,Linkedin,G+)
Personal experience: As in May 2012 50% free directories were removed from Google database, I was confused what to do with directory submission. In April 2013, I start checking backlinks for my competitors with link: operator in google and found so many sites having links from directories like DMOZ, yahoo etc but most of them are paid only. Then i start grabbing these backlinks and result was positive, Google start counting these in backlinks in 2 months.
Social signals also had a great impact on rankings with links from G+ communities and pages. For many terms I found tweets and Pinterest boards in top rankings. In case of Facebook I think only page title works in rankings nothing else for me.
- Choose your website goal
- Look for your competitors
- Find keywords with Keyword Planner or Wordtracker
- Improve your interlinking
- Website testing with browsers and loading time
- Add Google analytics and webmaster code
- Join social networks like G+, facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn
- Maintain ranking sheet
The big hill pending is buliding quality links which will go forver – a non ending process in SEO with bookmarking, article submission, directory submission, PR etc..
